Lens Options

Here at Saskatoon Eye Surgeons we are pleased to offer a wide range of Intraocular Lens options to help suit all of our patients lifestyles and needs.

The monofocal lens implant is covered by Saskatchewan Health and has no additional cost. The other available options do carry an additional fee. The options are explained in greater detail below. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you do not intend to upgrade and are satisfied to proceed with the monofocal lens provided by Saskatchewan Health.

I would like to assure you that you will receive the same high quality care, irrespective of your choice. This information is only to educate you on the options available to you.

Monofocal Lens
This lens will provide the ability to focus on one point, typically improving uncorrected distance vision. Therefore, this lens will correct the majority of your distance vision but glasses may be needed after surgery to sharpen distance vision depending on the degree of astigmatism present. In addition, you will still require glasses for viewing intermediate and near objects.

Toric Lens
This lens will provide additional correction of distance vision for patients with astigmatism. Similar to the monofocal lens, glasses will be required for functional intermediate and near vision after surgery.

Extended Depth of Focus Lens
This lens provides reduced dependency on glasses and viewing at multiple distances while providing a more natural functioning vision. There may still be a need for glasses for reading very fine, up close print. This lens is also offered with toric correction for patients with astigmatism at no additional cost. This may also be a great option for patients who have had a previous corneal based refractive surgery or do a lot of night time driving.

Trifocal Lens
This lens provides reduced dependency on glasses at all distances – distance, intermediate and near. Due to the optics of the lens, halos and glare are common to experience for the first few months after surgery. These symptoms usually improve with time as lens adaptation occurs. This lens is also offered with toric correction for patients with astigmatism at no additional cost.

All lens costs and additional information can be provided to you along with the above information either during your visit to the office or by contacting us at 306-974-4497.
